Coaching and mentoring
Coaching and mentoring conversations can take you almost anywhere.... from a moment of profound personal insight to a strategy for influencing change in your business. It all depends on which area of your life is in most need of some attention at that moment.
I work from the inside out: first clarifying what your personal values and beliefs are, and then exploring how to integrate that into all aspects of your life and work. I don't believe that you can, sustainably, maintain different personas in your personal and professional lives - in fact I see that trying to do this is, for many, a major source of disconnect and stress. So I offer a 'whole life' approach, and ask you to bring all of yourself to each session. However, I also see that individuals can rarely change if the context around them stays the same, and so we often work on influencing and shaping change in relationships, team dynamics, organisational culture and processes. If you are trying to be more authentic and 'walk the talk' as a leader then I may be a good coach for you. I am also very comfortable working in the transpersonal space and engaging with how to live a life that represents your values and aspirations, and have worked with many social entrepreneurs and ethical businesspeople to help them turn their passion into their profession..
I work from the premise that we can all have a more rewarding life when we have support to keep us on track and to challenge us to grow. Although my sessions are primarily conversations (informed by postgraduate study of coaching, leadership, organisational theory and practice), I also draw on many years of mindfulness and mind-body practice, sometimes use creative approaches, and when appropriate use academically sound frameworks I hold accreditation in such as Belbin Team Roles and the Analytic-Network Coaching Framework to help provide greater insight and strategies for enlightened action. I have a deep interest in how the mind works, informed both by the recent, ground-breaking findings of neuroscience and psychology and the much more ancient insights of many wisdom traditions. I am a great champion for more compassionate and authentic leadership, and for seeing ourselves as embedded in systems and networks we can influence and transform. I will be fearlessly honest about reflecting back to you what I see and sense, challenging where I see stuck patterns or thinking, and supportive on the journey of discovery into who you are, what is happening in your life, and how to do your work more effectively. I will bring deep listening, care and curiosity to our meetings.
My goal is to build a community of leaders who also know when it is the right time to listen or follow. People who act on what is important to them, even when this is a difficult choice, and are constantly self-reflective. Individuals who want to build better networks, partnerships, organisations, teams and families, work towards greater harmony on our planet, and integrate their authentic self into the everyday activities of life. I deliver action learning sets, which uses a group coaching approach, as part of several leadership development programmes, and have used team coaching with boards, management teams and groups of colleagues.
I receive regular supervision and am registered at Professional level with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC).
The wonderful and inspirational mentor Jonathan Snell of Embercombe, who was my initial inspiration to become a coach, shared this about me:
'It’s impossible not to be impressed by Kate, she is someone who challenges herself and brings to her life and work integrity, a bright intention and a presence earned through her devotion to her personal work and the gifts and insights she embodies. She is fully identified with her path and continues to focus on her personal transformation. Since we first met in 2010 she has shown continued faith and perseverance, ever moving towards alignment in her life. She has much of value to share with others on their path too as her destiny and intention conjoin to bring her talents into play and offer us the work she came to do.'
