Yoga
When I speak about yoga, I mean the entirety of yoga.
This includes physical postures, which can be fun, help develop our awareness, ground us when we're too much in our heads, and rebalance and re-energise the physical body.
But in the west we too often ignore the rest of yoga: the many mindfulness techniques that can be carried into day-to-day life, the pantheon of sitting meditation practices, the breathwork that connects body, heart and mind, the yoga of serving our community, the enquiry into what it is to be a human being. When called to, I draw on these both to help me align myself as well as to share with clients.
I am often approached by people looking for coping mechanisms to deal with the stress in their lives, wanting to build resilience. It is important to learn tools to help and I often use them myself. But if we don't also explore what is really causing us to suffer, this can only ever be putting a sticking plaster over the wound, rather than taking a step forwards on the path towards real awakening. Self-enquiry, conversations and questions are a part of all my own practice.
Having studied and practiced yoga and meditation for 19 years with extensive periods of silent retreat and intensive personal practice, I can bring a wide range of practices, tools and insight to sessions with individuals and groups. I have also faced, and overcome, many obstacles on the physical, mental/ego and emotional levels including multiple surgeries and breast cancer, and know that, at the times when you feel stuck, lonely or overwhelmed, help from someone else can be invaluable.
Currently my main teacher is Lama Lena Yeshe Tsogyal (Buddhist Dzogchen and Tantric meditation). Other important teachers have included: Clive Sheridan, Ram Chatlani, Bridget Woods-Kramer, Nancy Gilgoff, Abby Daniel, Roberta Giannotti, Shri K. Pattabhi Jois, Burgs, Richard Freeman, Carlos Pomeda and various shamanic teachers from around the world.
Please contact me for a free consultation. I can offer one-to-one sessions online or in Devon.
I am always open to collaborating with others to design retreats, workshops and other initiatives. After two workshops in June 2017 for women to help build inner resilience through mindfulness and breathwork here's what was said:
'Feedback from your session was great - you are so amazing at holding space for practice - people have been given such a gift.'
